His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, attended the opening session of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, inaugurated by His Excellency President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, as part of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29). Hosted by Azerbaijan under the theme "Solidarity for a Green World," the conference runs from November 11 to 22, with the aim of enhancing international cooperation to address shared climate challenges.

In his address at the summit, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed emphasized the UAE's commitment to actively accelerating climate action and building a resilient economy capable of facing climate changes. His Highness highlighted the UAE’s rich legacy in environmental protection and support for sustainable development, which was a key driver behind hosting COP 28 last year, where the nation worked in a spirit of international cooperation to deliver an effective response for the first global assessment of progress towards the Paris Agreement goals.

His Highness further stressed that sustained international collaboration in climate action paves the way for a new phase of sustainable economic and social growth, emphasizing that climate action should be viewed as an opportunity for progress, not as a burden. His Highness noted that the historic "UAE Agreement" from COP 28 marked a significant milestone, affirming a collective global will to achieve a fair, responsible, and rational energy transition. This agreement also laid out a roadmap for fulfilling the Paris Agreement’s ambitions, successfully restoring trust in the multilateral international climate framework by ensuring adherence to previous financial commitments and mobilizing climate finance for the countries most in need.
His Highness the President urged world leaders to focus on overcoming differences and to work together for the benefit of all humanity, stressing the importance of united efforts to establish common ground for achieving climate goals.
Earlier, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed arrived at the conference venue, where he was welcomed by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres. Following the welcome, His Highness participated in a commemorative photo session with the heads of delegations and proceeded to the VIP hall, where a group photo of the summit leaders was taken.
His Highness also exchanged friendly conversations with several delegation leaders, discussing the bilateral relations between the UAE and their respective countries, as well as the significance of COP 29 in enhancing international cooperation on climate action.
